In a significant move to enhance data protection and digital resilience, URBANET has completed a comprehensive digital security training program for its staff.
The training, held over two days at the organization’s brought together personnel from various projects the organization is implementing, including administration, communication, programs and institutional development units. Facilitated by cybersecurity experts from Yelsumah Consult, the program focused on equipping staff with practical knowledge and tools to safeguard URBANET’s digital assets and protect sensitive information.
Participants were introduced to key areas such as data hygiene, phishing detection, safe data storage, secure communication channels, and mobile device security. The sessions also included simulations of cyber threats and group exercises aimed at reinforcing the application of cybersecurity best practices.
Speaking at the closing session, URBANET’s Executive Director, Mr Jibreel Mohammed Basit, emphasized the importance of the training in an era of increasing cyber threats. “As an organization that handles critical data on communities and development initiatives, we must stay ahead of the curve in digital security. This training reflects our commitment to accountability, efficiency, and the protection of our stakeholders’ information.”
Several staff members expressed appreciation for the hands-on nature of the training. “I now understand how easy it is for cybercriminals to exploit simple mistakes. This training has been eye-opening and will change how I handle data online,” said Ahmed Soale, a project officer for the North Gonja District.
URBANET plans to incorporate periodic refresher courses and integrate digital security protocols into its standard operating procedures. The organization is also exploring options to extend basic cybersecurity education to its community partners, ensuring broader protection across its networks.
