Nutrition is a critical component of women’s socioeconomic development, influencing their health, productivity, and overall well-being. In recognising the significance of nutrition in empowering women and promoting community health, a training program was conducted for Nutrition Community Partners—Health Committee Members in two districts: East Gonja and Nanton. This initiative aims to equip community health volunteers and committee members with the knowledge and necessary skills to promote optimal nutrition practices, prevent malnutrition, and support women’s health and socioeconomic development.
To ensure all these are possible, URBANET has, through the GROW2 project, trained 26 people, among whom were health volunteers, committee members, and executives of women-to-women groups across the two districts. The training was aimed at equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and understanding to promote optimal nutrition practices and support women’s health and socioeconomic development.
As part of the training’s objectives was to
- To train new Nutrition Community Partners in some communities without NCPs to promote optimal nutrition practices and support women’s health and socioeconomic development
- To improve collaboration with the Ghana Health Service on NCP activities and monitoring to ensure sustainability.
- Promote optimal nutrition practices and provide nutrition counselling
- Support women’s health and empowerment through nutrition interventions.
- Help NCPs understand the importance of nutrition for women’s health and socioeconomic development.
As part of URBANET’s thematic areas are Nutrition and Health, and Women’s Empowerment. Hence, when it comes to issues or activities in these areas, we ensure maximum impact and sustainability, and a ripple effect is created. Through our GESI and Nutrition specialists, we ensure that issues of gender and health are tackled keenly, as women are not just our targets, but also the children and households.
