URBANET Ghana, in partnership with Plan International Ghana under the WISE PROJECT, has facilitated training for 97 women on green skills from Tolon and Kumbungu districts. This included snail rearing, beekeeping, and mushroom cultivation. After a series of research in these districts, it was realized that these food chains were the least utilized but had a very high potential of thriving there.
Aside from its nutritional value and potential to serve as an income alternative source for these women, it was also considered because of its impact on climate change, which is the primary focus of URBANET. Green businesses or activities that are practiced in most communities serve as a climate adaptation method to help in the area of agriculture. For instance, bee farming, apart from producing honey for personal use and serving as an economic commodity, supports plant growth and health in the areas where they thrive.
The WISE project therefore seeks to create opportunities for women in the project areas to venture into these green businesses to be able to provide for themselves and contribute their quota to the mitigation of the climate crisis.
